program note

the piece quotes iconic classical repertoires for the cello. it follows a structure that lists the eras in reverse order: lutosławski, dvořák, haydn, and bach. each movement that serves as a source for the homage progressively reaches back in time, and the media added along with the cello increases in its degree of transformation. the inverted ‘cello’ in the title (oןןǝɔ) signifies another virtual cello, which is incorporated into the media. the oןןǝɔ imitates and assists the cello, while also transforming to create a contrast. it is a way of expressing reverence to the legacy of the past using contemporary methods.
