program note

the piece title is a random arrangement of uppercase ‘i’ and lowercase ‘l’. it is a representation of a barcode image made into text, used to conceal one’s identity on the internet. in an already virtual space, it presents an even more indistinguishable facade. we are living in an era where reality and virtuality overlap. soon, the proportion of our lives occupied by the virtual will far surpass that of reality. as time passes, it becomes more difficult to distinguish between what is real and what is fake. the piece is a discourse on the current situation, questioning ‘what can we now call real?’ or pondering ‘isn’t the difference between real and fake ultimately meaningless?’
