program note

in ensemble settings, western music prioritizes regulated beats, whereas korean traditional music follows the breathing and context of the performers. this piece is part of a study aiming to notate korean traditional music with its unique features using western music notation. the score of this piece indicates only the approximate position and pitch of each note. this allows western instrument players to break away from their habitual pulse and concentrate on the breathing of the other players. the purpose of this piece is to preserve the original features of korean traditional music while enhancing its versatility. it utilizes sujecheon, which is considered the highlight of jeongak.
